Custom Hat Manufacturer for UK Wholesale Buyers
Manufacturing for UK high-street retail, streetwear, sports licensees and corporate gifting — built around post-Brexit customs procedure, REACH compliance and high-street audit requirements.
Post-Brexit customs procedure for UK imports
Brexit reshaped UK customs procedure. Importers now file UK CDS declarations separately from EU TARIC, and the tariff schedule has diverged slightly from the EU CN. Custom hats fall under UK chapter 6505 with most tariff lines at 4% MFN duty plus 20% VAT on the CIF value. For higher-volume buyers we issue Form A or REX declarations where China-UK preferential agreements apply.
We work with three UK customs brokers (London Gateway, Felixstowe, Southampton) who handle UK CDS declarations and post-clearance audits. Most UK buyers use FOB Yiwu / FOB Ningbo with their own forwarder, but DDP UK is increasingly popular for SME importers who don't want to register with HMRC for VAT recovery on every shipment.
REACH and EU/UK chemical compliance
UK REACH (post-Brexit) mirrors EU REACH for most substances but is administered separately by HSE. We test to REACH SVHC list and CPSIA equivalents — the same OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified fabric meets both. For dye-heavy programs (Pantone match dyeing) we keep batch testing records on file.
Specific UK retail buyers — Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Next, Primark — each have additional supplier compliance protocols on top of REACH. We hold WRAP and Sedex SMETA 4-Pillar audits required by all four. Audit reports are made available to buyers on request.
UK Modern Slavery Act and supplier compliance
Under the Modern Slavery Act 2015, UK companies with £36M+ revenue must publish annual transparency statements covering their supply chains. Custom hat orders for these buyers require: Sedex SMETA 4-Pillar audit (current within 12 months), worker grievance mechanism documentation, and visible workplace facility for site visit or video inspection. All three are standard at CrownsForge.
Smaller UK buyers (under £36M revenue) often request equivalent compliance evidence anyway, because their downstream retail customers require it. We provide a one-page UK Modern Slavery Act compliance summary tailored to UK procurement requirements.
Shipping options to UK ports
Standard ocean transit Yiwu/Ningbo to UK: 28-35 days sea LCL, 32-40 days FCL via Felixstowe; Southampton runs 30-38 days. Air express (DHL, FedEx) is 4-6 days to Heathrow but adds significant per-piece cost. Northern UK destinations route through Felixstowe with onward truck-trail (2-3 days additional).
We can quote DDP delivered to your UK warehouse for orders above 500 pieces — we handle ocean leg, customs, VAT, and final-mile delivery. UK VAT is 20% on the duty-paid value. For VAT-registered buyers, this is recoverable through your VAT return; we provide the import VAT invoice for your records.
UK seasonal calendar and trade show timing
UK retail calendar runs slightly later than US — autumn-winter orders typically placed July through September with sea freight arriving October. Order for festival season (May-August retail) by January; Q4 holiday by mid-August.
Key UK trade shows: Pure London (February and August) for fashion brands, Top Drawer for design-led retail, Spring Fair (February) for gift and promotional. We stagger sampling slots around these dates.
